Perspectives on Computer Systems Research

Dr. Gurdip Singh

Division Director for Computer and Network Systems (CNS) in the CISE Directorate at National Science Foundation

Divisional Dean of the School of Computing, George Mason University

Abstract:

The landscape of computer systems research is changing significantly with extensive deployment of Internet of Thing devices and new networking technologies. The next generation networked systems are expected to connect billions of heterogeneous devices and provide low-latency computational and storage resources on-demand at the edge and in the cloud. It is important that these systems have high resiliency, reliability, and availability. In addition, with the rapid expansion of digital infrastructure, there is increased interest in making this expansion sustainable. In this presentation, I will provide an overview of NSF investments on research in next generation networked systems, edge-to-cloud computing, resiliency and sustainability.
